Legalization of marijuana is a good idea DESPITE THE FACT Thousands of illegal immigrants farm marijuana on the West Coast. Billions of dollars are made every year in the United States in marijuana sales, but it is not taxed. This financial problem is a recurring issue. Legalization of marijuana could lesson the financial problem. My point is not that marijuana should be legalized without tax, but should be used as financial gain for the government to lessen our financial deficit.

Billions of dollars are made every year in the United States in marijuana sales, but it is not taxed. This financial problem is a recurring issue. Even more important than the money not gained by taxing marijuana, is the money lost by taxpayers because of the tremendous cost of imprisoning people charged with nonviolent possession charges. This not only costs money, but labels the prisoners as criminals for the rest of their lives leading to more criminal acts.
